Each year, SHOP ‘n SAVE’s independent owners are proud to sponsor the SHOP ‘n SAVE Westmoreland County International Airshow. The 2016 event was held at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport on Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22.
Through their commitment as title sponsor, SHOP ‘n SAVE also has the ability to give back to military families in need through various fundraising initiatives leading up to the event.
For the second year in a row, SHOP ’n SAVE sold $1 flight wings in-store for customers to “earn their wings” with all of the proceeds going directly towards the Feherty‘s Troops First Foundation, an organization that provides meaningful assistance to military personnel who have been wounded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Through this initiative, SHOP ’n SAVE proudly presented the Feherty‘s Troops First Foundation with $20,906 during a check presentation ceremony at the Youngwood, Pa. SHOP ‘n SAVE. The Youngwood SHOP ‘n SAVE sold the most flight wings of any retailer for the second year in a row, with $6,526 raised for the troops.
In total, SHOP ‘n SAVE raised close to $40,000 for military families in need through fundraising efforts prior to the Airshow and during the two-day event.
In addition to the sale of flight wings, SHOP ‘n SAVE partnered with Eckrich and Operation Homefront to provide a year’s worth of free groceries to a military family from Saltsburg, Pa. totaling $13,500, or about $260 a week. The family was surprised with a check at the 2016 Airshow.
“Our fundraising efforts on behalf of organizations like Feherty’s Troops First Foundation and Operation Homefront is the least we can do to show our appreciation to military families who have sacrificed so much,” said Rich Haeflein, Advertising Account Manager at SHOP ‘n SAVE.
