SHOP ‘n Save Supports Local Community, Military Families As Title Sponsor Of 2016 Westmoreland County International Airshow

Grocery Retailer Amplifies Beloved Family Event

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – May 11, 2016 – SHOP ‘n SAVE®, the independently owned and operated grocery chain with more than 90 stores in Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Ohio and West Virginia, will serve as the title sponsor of the 2016 Westmoreland County International Airshow Presented by xCoal Energy & Resources for the second year in a row. Not only will the grocer have a great presence at the show on May 21 and 22, boosting family fun with activities and giveaways at their tent area, they will also be giving back to local military families through their “Earn Your Wings” campaign in retail locations.

“We take great pride in our responsibility as title sponsor of the SHOP ‘n SAVE Westmoreland County International Airshow,” said Rich Haeflein, Advertising Account Manager, SHOP ‘n SAVE. “We’re bringing bigger and better attractions to the two-day event in addition to giving back to our local military families through our “Earn Your Wings” program benefitting Feherty’s Troops First Foundation and Eckrich’s Operation Homefront. Last year, we raised over $40,000 for our military families and we’re honored to continue to raise proceeds for our men and women in uniform.”

Advanced ticket sales for the SHOP ‘n SAVE Westmoreland County International Airshow are currently available at SHOP ‘n SAVE; $16 for adults in advance and $18 at the gate. Customers who purchase tickets with their SHOP ‘n SAVE Perks Card in-store will enjoy an additional $2 savings ($4 total in-store savings).

This year’s lineup includes an All-star cast of performers that are rarely seen at one venue, including aerial demonstrations by the Canadian Forces 431 Snowbirds and a tactical demonstration from an F-22 Raptor, the Air Force’s newest fighter jet that can reach a speed of 1,520 mph. In addition, a World War II-era FM-2 Wildcat, a Brazilian Tucano and the Army's Golden Knights parachute team will be performing demonstrations for the crowd.

The SHOP ‘n SAVE tent area at the SHOP ‘n SAVE Westmoreland County International Airshow will include:

  • Three Top Rail Fuel Dragsters that visitors can autograph and write well wishes to the men and women protecting our country overseas. In addition, there will be a mini dragster that children can climb in for a photo (with adult supervision).
  • Three NASCAR Race Cars including the #18 M&M’s NASCAR Race Car, #43 Eckrich Race Car and #88 Hellmann’s® Race Car
  • A 13 foot tall Turkey Hill Cow
  • The Oscar Mayer Weinermobile
  • Raffle tickets on-sale for Sunoco fuel cards and SHOP ‘n SAVE gift cards at the top of every hour

“We are extremely pleased to be partnering once again with SHOP ‘n SAVE for the 2016 SHOP ‘n SAVE Westmoreland County Airshow,” said Gabe Monzo, Executive Director of the Westmoreland County Airport Authority.

“They do a fabulous job in not only distributing tickets throughout the region through their many fine stores, but also with many other important contributions that improve the show immensely — not the least of which is raising money to help veterans through the Feherty’s Troops First Foundation.”

Monzo also credited SHOP 'with providing numerous attractions to the spectator area of the show, as well as donating food and other needed supplies to support the army of volunteers that labor long hours to ensure that the show is safe, secure and exciting.

Proceeds of the SHOP ‘n SAVE Westmoreland County International Airshow will benefit the Troops First Foundation. The non-profit organization works to provide meaningful assistance to our military that have been wounded while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to ticket sales, SHOP ‘n SAVE will be giving store customers a chance to directly support the Troops First Foundation with $1 donations with the Earn Your Wings Campaign.

On Saturday, May 21st, at the start of the Airshow, SHOP ‘n SAVE is joining forces with Eckrich, the makers of naturally hardwood smoked sausage and savory deli meats, to present a local military family with a very special surprise. This is a part of a campaign to honor, thank and support military families through its partnership with Operation Homefront.

Gates open at 8:00 a.m. with the event starting at 11:00 a.m. Parking will be available on the field for $5.00 with all proceeds benefiting local volunteer fire departments.
